SAR ADC eases design-in burdens

A 24-bit SAR ADC, the AD4630-24 from ADI maintains speed and accuracy, while eliminating many system design challenges. Leveraging ADI’s Easy Drive technology and Flexi-SPI serial peripheral interface, the dual-channel simultaneous-sampling device simplifies the complex process of designing ADCs into ATE, digital control loops, and medical instrumentation.

Easy Drive solves such issues as strict layout guidelines, rigid digital interface timing requirements, and the complicated selection of companion products. Wide differential input and common-mode ranges allow inputs to use the full ±VREF range without saturating, simplifying signal conditioning requirements and system calibration. Improved settling of the Easy Drive analog inputs broadens the selection of analog front-end components compatible with the AD4630-24.

The converter’s Flexi-SPI eases host processor and ADC integration, offering a wide data clocking window and multiple serial data output lanes. Echo clock mode and ADC master clock mode relax timing requirements and simplify the use of digital isolators.

First in a pin-compatible family of six SAR ADCs with 16-bit to 24-bit resolution, the dual-channel AD4630-24 delivers a throughput rate of 2 Msamples/s per channel. It also guarantees maximum integral nonlinearity of ±0.9 ppm and no missing codes at 24 bits over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, which the company says is a 4x improvement when compared to others. A reference buffer and all critical decoupling components are integrated into a single chip, resulting in a 2x improvement in solution density.

Housed in a 64-ball, 7×7×1.72-mm CSP-BGA, the AD4630-24 costs $30.95 each in lots of 1000 units. A single-channel version, the AD4030-24, is also available now, while the remaining four devices in the series will launch throughout this year.
